BEING BORN THROUGH DYING

Perhaps it would be gentle to live life backward,
like a soul sailing upon a storm-tossed sea
and arriving at eternal Eden. Thus, by being born through dying,
the human journey would softly come to an end.

Old age, a steadfast promise of the body blooming,
exalted emotion for the one we are yet to love;
love, an ember of essence, which, growing young again,
shall become ardent passion — it cannot fail!

A reunion with our parents, a sweet furrow once traced,
joyful adolescence, a cherished season,
and, through play, arriving at the end of the road.

To nestle in the mother's womb, sheltered
by the warmth of her flesh and, on a long winged journey,
to join with God in the divine breath.
