I AWAIT YOUR ARRIVAL
AT THE SHORE OF TIME
Within the hidden images
of my fevered mind,
I have searched for your childhood,
your sublime longings,
your innocent smiles,
your golden hair,
your rosy skin
and your tiny body.
I have remembered the touch
of your gentle fingers,
your sweet caresses,
your loving kisses,
your rounded arms
wrapped around my neck
with the peaceful warmth
of sincere affection.
It is a tender image
that I no longer find when I look at you,
and I have had to make
a painful effort
to glimpse your soul,
lost within your winter,
reached only
in fleeting reflections.
What cruel storm
darkened your sky?
What blow of fate
cut down your greatest dreams?
Who extinguished the joy
of that first bright spark?
Why must this world
be so harsh and treacherous?
Thinking of your childhood,
of laughter and games
within the blossoming garden
of your earliest steps,
faith in your return
has nested in my tower;
one day the sun will rise,
and you shall guide your flight.
As I observe your eyes,
your restless gaze,
your yearning expression
before an uncertain future,
I have seen your hidden star
still shining,
with the vigor and strength
of times long past.
For that small light,
for that faint flicker,
for the living pulse
that presses within your chest,
for the immortal seed
that God placed at your center,
I await your arrival
at the shore of time.
