BLACK CLOUD

His fire of love burned brightly
                                     above the sea.
He soared through a blessed, infinite space
                                             of virtue.
A harmonious rhythm filled

                               the stellar silence.
An immense rainbow stretched its open arms
                               without the cross.

A black cloud darkened

                                 his youthful repose.
A red lightning flash of passion
                                    dazzled his eyes.
He abandoned the universe of sun and stars,
                                             still young.
He followed the foolish course of the black cloud

                                             of ambition.

He lost his treasure in a frozen farewell
                                                 of crystal.
The voice of the lunatic night howled
                                                its sorrow.
A sudden, inhuman tempest shattered

                                               his strength.
His dream died — a wandering ship
                                       of love gone astray.

The cloud, upon its course, drags behind it
                                        a trail of white light.
It wanders alone and cuts through
                                              the sidereal mist.
Conscience drives its open arms
                                                upon the cross.
A mournful, sepulchral silence
                                         covers the heavens.
