CHILD OF THE CITY

Child of the city,
born a prisoner,
you suffer, at your age,
emptiness, oppression, boredom.

The loneliness weighs heavily
that luxury seeks to justify.
You endure authority
selfish and petty.

Television, in league
with a frantic planet,
displays the daily spectacle
of wars, terror, fear...

Your innate goodness
yearns for joy;
yet it is drenched in wickedness,
in twisted ways and habits.

And in this painful reality
sufferer of exileof exile,
you see your insecurity
within an uncertain future.

You perceive baseness
closing in around your smile,
you reject the inheritance
of fruit already stained and spoiled.
